Abstract:
People affected by Down?s syndrome (DS) present certain risks and health problems more frequently. That?s why there are needed another kind of activities to be added to the Programme of Preventive Activities and Health Promotion and to the Programme of Children Health Supervision of AEPap. They should make possible the full development of each DS person?s capacities. The implementation of these recommendations has substantiallyimproved the quality of life and life expectancy in DS in countries where this kind of programmes are routinely put into practice. There aren?t evaluations in our country on the degree of complementation of the recommendations made by these institutions, but a lot of studies have proved that more then half of the patients haven?t had a thyroid test in the last three years in spite of the persistent recommendations of sanitary institutions of this and other countries of Europe. Is in this context and with this aim that the group Previnfad of AEPap puts together the initiatives of institutions devoted to DS with the objective of integrating them in Primary Care health programmes, seeking the generalization of attention of children with DS in health centres and the participation in actualization and request of the best evidence possible in each moment on specific interventions on health protection of these individuals.Keywords: Prevention.
