Abstract

Immunoglobulin A (IgA) vasculitis, classically known as Schönlein-Henoch purpura, is the most common systemic vasculitis in childhood. Diagnosis is clinical, and the primary care paediatrician plays a central role both in the initial suspicion and in follow-up, since renal involvement ─the main determinant of prognosis─ may appear weeks after onset. We present the case of a seven-year-old girl with palpable purpura on the lower limbs and arthralgia three weeks after an episode of streptococcal pharyngotonsillitis confirmed by a rapid antigen detection test. She had no renal or gastrointestinal involvement at diagnosis and progressed favourably with symptomatic treatment, remaining under follow-up with blood pressure and urinalysis monitoring.
